I’m Dr. SLIM, Family Nurse Practitioner.
SLIM is derived from the initials of my full name. No, I am not an exclusive weight-loss medical provider. Nor am I suggesting that I am a slim, thin, or skinny person. Can I help my patients lose weight? YES! Am I personally a healthy weight? YES!
Why do I call myself Dr. SLIM if I am a Nurse Practitioner? I’m glad you asked! I AM a Doctor, as I hold a doctoral degree…a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) to be more specific. I trained as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), and am certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB). More on that later…
I started my healthcare career in 2009 as a Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) Patient Care Technician, while completing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, the bachelors level degree for Registered Nurses. I began working as a Med-Surg RN in 2010, transitioned to outpatient clinic nursing in 2012, then entered my doctorate program in 2015. I have worked as a Primary Care FNP since 2018.
My healthcare philosophy aligns most with Lifestyle Medicine, though I have not yet pursued a certification from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). I have experience in caring for patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatrics. My passion is partnering with patients to improve their health and prevent chronic disease through lifestyle interventions. However, lifestyle cannot fix everything, so it is important to acknowledge when it is the time for medical or surgical treatments.
In my personal life I am a wife, and mother to six children from toddler age to late adolescence. As a blended family, only four of our children live in our home full-time. I enjoy reading, creative writing, exercise, cooking and baking, photography, playing musical instruments, and singing.
I look forward to sharing information, general advice, and my ideas with you all. Hopefully what you read here will help facilitate meaningful conversations with your healthcare provider. As a necessary disclaimer, my website is not intended to render actual medical advice or treatment. Before implementing any changes in lifestyle, medication, or anything else that may affect your health, you should consult with your established healthcare provider directly.
